Every pattern has a purpose.
Whether it’s perfectionism, negative self-talk, drinking too much, binge eating, or pushing away the people who care about us, our habits and behaviors serve some function. In therapy with me, we’ll work to understand what’s motivating the behaviors or thought patterns you’re hoping to change. Then, we’ll use that knowledge to come up with a treatment plan to replace these unwanted thoughts and behaviors with patterns that better serve you.
Treatment Approach
I come from a cognitive-behavioral background, which means I conceptualize problems in terms of the thoughts and behaviors associated with them. I support clients in identifying thought patterns and behaviors that are getting in their way and ways to change these unhelpful patterns. Additionally, one of my specialties is helping clients to identify specific changes they want to make (e.g., reducing substance use, increasing physical movement, developing effective work routine) and create a plan to work towards their goal. Tailored treatment planning means each client’s specific session will look different. Below are a few examples of how therapy with me might target your concerns.
Exploring values and goals to support behavior change
Identifying and problem-solving barriers to change
Teaching new skills to function better in your daily life
Identifying triggering situations to better understand the source of unhelpful thoughts and behaviors
Providing a non-judgmental space to discuss issues and concerns
Practicing mindfulness and/or using acceptance-based strategies to change the impact your situation is having on you
Process
The first step in participating in therapy with me is typically a free 15 minute consultation. This consultation is an opportunity for you to share what you are hoping to get out of therapy and ask me any questions to see if we are a good fit.
If you feel like we click, the next step is to schedule an initial intake appointment. I’ll send you some forms to complete prior to this appointment to get a snapshot of your current situation, context, and concerns. At the initial intake appointment, we’ll discuss your background, current context, and goals for therapy, and start to work out a treatment plan. I might ask you to expand on relevant topics brought up in the consultation or intake paperwork. If an official diagnosis is helpful to you, I can conduct a structured interview to assess your symptoms and determine if they meet criteria for a diagnosis. While only the first session is the official intake, we may continue treatment planning for another session or two if appropriate. This is totally normal - people are complex!
My treatment approach focuses on principles relevant across different concerns, and we will work together to develop a treatment plan with practices that fit you best. We’ll also check in throughout the time you are in therapy to ensure it is still serving you and make adjustments as needed.
Logistics & Fees
My sessions are typically 55 minutes. I currently see clients via telehealth only. Prior to each appointment, you will receive a link via email or text to join the session.
Frequency and duration of treatment vary from person to person. We might start off meeting weekly, and taper frequency based on your progress and needs. Some people find it helpful to engage in time-limited care addressing a specific problem, while others might prefer longer-term care to identify and address overarching patterns. I will collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan that fits your needs.
My rate is $240 per standard 55 min session and $275 per initial intake, due at time of session. A good faith estimate of expected charges is available upon scheduling or upon your request. I do not take insurance, however I may be covered as an out-of network provider. Contact your insurance company to learn about your out-of-network benefits. My sessions typically use CPT code 90837. I will provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I also take Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments.
I reserve a limited number of sliding-scale spots for clients who may be otherwise unable to afford therapy.
